Art Williams, a lifelong Shelter Island summer resident since 1953, became a permanent resident in 1993.
Art was born and raised in New York City. After completing his bachelor’s degree at Washington and Jefferson College, he returned to New York City to complete his MBA in accounting at New York University.
Until 1990, Art worked in the New York office of a big four accounting firm, where he became a certified public accountant. There, he specialized in the areas of financial services and mortgage collateralization. Subsequently, he moved on to Deutsche Bank Capital Corporation, serving as a vice president and product controller for their money management department. He currently publishes two local magazines on the north and south forks.
In 1993, Art co-founded A&A Williams LLP, a Shelter Island based accounting practice. He has two grown children, Ivy who works and lives in Chicago, and Felicity recently completed graduate degree in music. Both were students at Shelter Island School
Art was elected two consecutive terms as Shelter Island Supervisor from 2001 through 2005. He is a past president and currently serves as secretary and treasurer of the Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the board of directors of The Island Gift of Life Foundation and San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Greenport, NY. He previously served on the boards of the Shelter Island Chapter of the American Red Cross, Shelter Island Educational Foundation, Shelter Island Association, and Friends of the Shelter Island Library. He coached Shelter Island Youth Soccer and is a past commodore of the Shelter Island Yacht Club.
